Emergency Exit Button

People in abusive relationships can be in danger if they are caught viewing a website geared toward helping victims and survivors of sexual violence and abuse.

To reduce your risk of being caught, click the Emergency Exit button (shown above). When you click the button, this website will close immediately and your web browser will open a more neutral site (i.e. Google homepage, Weather Channel). Please test this feature RIGHT NOW to be sure that it works properly and that you are familiar with its function.

Note on computer/mobile browser safety

Computer and phone use can be monitored quite easily and it is impossible to completely erase the history of websites you have viewed. Consider the following tips to increase your safety:

If you are afraid your internet, computer or mobile browser usage might be monitored, please use a safer computer at a friend’s house, local library, or work.

If you fear your email account is being monitored, be sure to change your passwords regularly, choosing a combination of letters and numbers that would not be known to others.

For increased computer safety, use Private/Incognito browsing modes. This prevents history from being saved in your computer; however this does not protect you from spyware that may be installed on your computer.

To delete internet history on most browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer), hold down Ctrl-Shift-Delete. Select the boxes of information you wish to delete and click “Delete Browsing History.” In Safari, click the gear icon in the upper right and select Reset Safari. Select the boxes of information you wish to delete and click “Reset.”
